Our Partners

A national joint effort from all key sectors and health professionals together with RDU team was exerted to produce Jordan Rational Drug List (JRDL) and Jordan National Drug Formulary (JNDF) as a first step for rationalization, accordingly the following structure was formed:
A. The advisory board at national level to medical staff, administration and pharmacy (AB).
B. The National Pharmacy and Therapeutic committee (NPTC).
C. The Technical committees (TC): according to the anatomical classification in which medicines are divided into different groups according to the organ or system on which they act ,that’s to say one committee for each pharmacological classification so 17 committees were formed.
D. Hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutic committees (HPTC).

Jordan National Drug Formulary2006:

Jordan National Drug Formulary 2006 (JNDF) was disseminated through a national workshop held in Amman September 18, 2006 as a result of cooperative efforts from the four public sectors. The completion of the Jordan Rational Drug List (JRDL) and JNDF simply represents one step forward in the promotion and implementation of an effective RDU strategy in Jordan. In order to assure the sustainability of this effort, it is imperative that JNDF becomes available to all practicing physicians, pharmacists and nurses in Jordan and also to students of medicine and pharmacy. It should also become a live document by continuous updating with yearly revision in order to foster confidence as a reference source. The addition /deletion form should be followed in order to add any new drug based on evidence-based review.Your written or verbal comments would help us to review and update JNDF.

Rational Drug Use Messages

Many diseases can be prevented by: eating nutritious food, clean surroundings, and immunization.

Many diseases do not need medicines. Persons who are sick with these diseases get well with or without medicines: simple cough and colds, hepatitis, minor skin infections, polio, diarrhea, measles.

The following are more important than medicines: rest, eating nutritious food, using safe and simple home remedies, drinking plenty of water juices.

Even in serious diseases where medicines are needed, the body's defenses play an important role in fighting and resisting the germs. The correct use of medicines complements this natural healing ability of the body.

All available medicines in a drugstore have a generic label. The brand name does not matter, as long as they are of the same generic label and dose. Drugs of the same generic name also have the same potency and effect. Hence, one can choose the cheapest medicine available.

What Do I Need To Know About My Prescription Drugs?

Is my pharmacist required to give me information about my prescriptions?

Yes. When you receive a new prescription, the pharmacist is required to verbally counsel you about the prescription and also provide you written information about the prescription drug. The pharmacist may provide you with information such as: the name and description of the drug; dosage form, route of administration, and duration of therapy; special directions and precautions; common severe side or adverse effects or interactions that may be encountered; techniques for self-monitoring of drug therapy; proper storage; refill information; and action to be taken in the event of a missed dose. Pharmacists may also provide additional information when they believe that the information is necessary and in your best interest. In addition, every pharmacy is required to make available to you a patient reference, which provides written information designed for the consumer about prescription drugs. This reference must be easily accessible to all consumers in the pharmacy.
